Iglesia Cristiana del Norte (ICN)
Project Atizapan is the construction project for the ICN church. Growth patterns at ICN indicate
that until a facility is built attendance will increase and wane due to the limited space. ICN has
an excellent piece of property upon which a multi-purpose facility can be built for worship and
education. In recent months the property has been cleared and is ready for construction.
A break down of the needs is as follows.
- $45,000 in US funding to complement the funds raised by the congregation.
- Demolition. We still have some walls and floors that need to be broken up as well as
a cistern where the church building will be built. This can best be done by a backhoe and
would cost approximately $750 dollars.
- Construction site cleanup. Much of the site cleanup was recently done by the
Tomoka Christian Church of Ormond Beach, Florida. 22 truck loads of dirt and broken
cement was trucked off.
- Construction. Once the necessary permits have been acquired actual construction will
begin. The first stage will involve setting the footers for the columns, laying a concrete
floor and doing block work. Work groups can stretch the dollar even more through
their contribution of labor and funds. We are hoping that work groups will be
available to help with:
- 1. Foundation work. This will include pouring the footers for the columns and the floor.
- 2. Floor pad. This is a basic concrete slab. Preparing the rebar and metal screen,
- 3. Walls. The construction site has walls on three sides. Existing walls will be reinforced
and some new wall built.
- 4. Inside construction out of wood or metal studs and sheetrock.
- 5. Floor tiles. The concrete slab will be tiled at a later time as funds become
available. We have a contact that will donate out of stock tile if we pay shipping.
- 6. Painting. Obviously a lot of painting will be needed in finishing up the facility.
If you are interested in helping build the ICN worship center or with any of
these projects through a financial gift or a work group we ask that you contact
Steve & Kay Carpenter at sknb@sknbc.com.
The traditional means of financially supporting a missionary's work includes sending
monthly sustaining support and putting together a work group to go and work with the
missionary. We encourage both of these means of partnering with our ministry.
Another way to help the work is to adopt a project as a group of churches, a single
church, a Sunday school class or as an individual. This type of support is directed
toward the completion of a particular project that has been chosen. A work group from
the church or churches can take a hands on approach to working with the project,
although that is not always the case.
Projects can be large or small and are something that will improve the ministry and or
serve as a form of outreach to the community and share the ministry of Christ with
others. Some examples of projects are (1) VBS’s, children’s camps, seminars,
retreats and scholarships for retreats; (2) distribution of school supplies, blankets and
winter jackets, Bibles, etc; (3) construction projects such as new construction,
remodeling projects, play equipment, furniture and painting; (4) supplying needed
equipment such as furniture, computers, cameras, literature, projectors, etc.; (5) prayer
walks and drama.
Because projects are of varying sizes and costs one single church may want to take on
one project while another project would need several churches to take it on. Projects
may also lead to more than one church forming a work group or ministry team and
coming together to work on their project.
If you wish additional information about adopting a project or concerning the organizing
of a work group or you would like to talk about dates please contact Steve and Kay
Carpenter at sknb@sknbc.com or Steve Palich at stevepalich@cmfi.org.
Support Opportunities
Needs for the Eagles Church
- Construction: With the growth in attendance and the vision of the community center
and the Community Health Evangelism it has become clear that construction at the
Aguilas site is a priority. Plans have been drawn up. At this time we are requesting
assistance in raising $135,000.
- Play Equipment: Since we have a lot of kids attending we have decided that we need to
build some children’s play equipment. However, in order not to interfere with construction
we will wait to construct the playground until after the building has at least been initiated.
- Projector: The Aguilas church needs a projector for their children’s ministry. It will be
used in the teaching, music ministry and showing videos.
- School Supply Project: The Aguilas church distributes school supplies to more than
750 chilren each August in preparation for classes. This activity has been a huge
testimony to the neighborhoods and the families. We need VBS' to help us pay for the
large quantity of supplies. The total cost is around $5,500 dollars.
Iglesia Cristiana Las Aguilas (Eagles)
- Needed Equipment: Both churches need Spanish Bibles in popular translations that
can be presented to neighbors and included in evangelism packets to be given away.
The Eagles Christian Church has developed a Community Center that is attracting many
people from the neighborhood to it's activities. Thus far the CC has held a Breast Cancer
seminar, a Marriage Enrichment Dinner, and provides the community with the Homework Club,
the English Club and numerous other ministry opportunities. The CC will also be the home of
the Community Health Evangelism program which will motivate the neighborhood to improve
their community.
At this time the Eagles Church is renting a two story home to serve as the Community Center.
At the same time they are using a local school (Missionary Scholl) for worship on Sunday
afternoons. For a number reasons it has become apparent that a facility for the church needs
to be a high priority. the community is responding to their ministry and they need a home to
use for that ministry.
A sister ministry that formerly ministered to families that lived beside the now closed landfill has
sold a piece of property valued at $150,000 to the Eagles congregation for $10,000. It is at this
time being subdivided between the church and the school. We are thankful for this remarkable
opportunity.
